Hi! Long time no post/see/meet.

I'm having a little panic moment, thinking I've bitten off more than I can chew.... I volunteered to run a game room a STEM night focusing on games that help people understand or are gateways to learning about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

I've got a few games already in mind, even some GoldieBlox stuff. But I'm woefully short on some other games that I feel would be great.

Would anyone be willing to lend me some games for or come out and help STEM-out the game room? It's at South Park Middle School and it's this Thursday night from 5:30-7:30. Families are welcome if you want to come out and participate just participate in some STEM-awesomeness. [-o<

I know it's short notice AND on a game night, but any help is always greatly appreciated and it's for the greater good of geekdom. \:D/

I might be able to assist. I'll have to see what I have that is STEM-y.

What type of gamer are you?: RPG
I'm trying to come up with something STEM related I can help with, gamewise.

We're bringing the following either to display (here are some recommended games for different areas) and/or play (for people who want to stay and game a little or see some of the layout and components):

Co2
The Pandemics
Bazaar
Steam Park
Galaxy Trucker (Ray's adjusting it for ease)
Red Planet
GoldiBlox stuff
Robot Turtle
Hearts of Attraction
Expedition Dino
Magic Labyrinth
Animal Upon Animal
Domino Rally
Chomp!
Timeline
Manhattan Project
Tsuro
Swamped
Quirkle

The other lady is going to have chess and checkers (she never sent me other things... so I don't know if she's bringing in Jenga or Yahtzee or Uno).

So I feel like I'm missing categories that explore maybe Engineering and some Technology maybe? I just feel super Science heavy with a smattering of Technology and Engineering.

I keep seeing Code Monkey Island and Compounded and Evolution.

Blokus
Richocet Robots

I'd add
Take it Easy
Blokus
Can't Stop

Off the top of my head. I'll have to see what else I might have.
I might join you.

That would be awesome!

At the very least, you could put yourself in a bubble and make gak. ;-)

I've been able to infiltrate every school function with a game room. This was my new challenge. In March I have Family Literacy night where I'm actually creating a handout for families to help build Literacy skills at all ages using games. It's been a busy game year at South Park!

Things I can bring...

Robo Rally, that's basically computer programming.
Witches Brew could pass as chemistry. :)
PowerGrid! How is that not science?! Electrical Engineering?

I don't have it, but Pandemic might fit, health?

We've got the Pandemics (and the quick play), but those are AWESOME!

I've been given the Media Center, so we've got a good bit of room and I'm mapping the display right now. I might do a take-along for people who come in and are interested. Still working through that.

I figure even if we break out some games and start playing, others can see what these games are all about. I'm hoping some of my club kids show up, because they'll be great ambassadors.

Thank you so very much for coming out and helping to support STEM night. Iwas a huge hit and even the next day I had some kids asking me about the games or to remind them of the titles of things. Administrators and District STEM Coach was thrilled with the inventive ways to incorporate STEM into Family Game Nights and the classroom.

I really appreciate the support completely. I didn't know what to expect this year, as it is the first time I've branched out like this, but it went well. Already have a whole page of notes for next year. :-) Thanks again for helping me rock this (as well as I could in competition with marshmallow catapults and kids being put in bubbles).
