I've just picked up Summoner Wars and after I can occasionally beat the computer, I'll be happy to stumble around a game or two with any of you. Procoffee on gametable .

I still can't get Summoner Wars to stay open on my IPad 1. I think Eric said his works fine. Anyone else have problems?

Never had it crash once. Dozens of online games, and probably 30 against AI.
I may not be perfect, but parts of me are pretty awesome.

Mine works okay too. I have been playing games with Procoffee/Coffeedrinker pretty regularly. Anyone else who can get it to work, please feel free to invite me to some games!

Who else has PR and may know better than I how to work it?

I ask b/c Puerto Rico's recent update states it added async play thru Gamecenter but I cannot figure out how to invite you guys to a game. I figured since it is GotM we should try an IOS game if we can as well, but I am too stupid to figure out the interface.

Anyone more acclimated to the app have an idea to set up async invites? If so post and I can try the correct way or just invite me to a game!

Cheers!

In the app, press Online/New Game- then click the player squares to give them a picture, and make sure they are set to human. click the check mark in the upper right, then Game Center pops up where you can invite friends. It's not too bad, but not too intuitive either.
Check for an invite!

Very cool. I also tried to create a game of Caylus, but when you select Internet game is prompts for an email address. I thought this was supposed to be Game Center enabled too.
Simon: Hello
Robert: Hello
Simon: What's your name?
Robert: Um, Robert Unwin
Simon: And what do you do?
Robert: I work at a chicken factory.

Please do try to invite me to a Caylus game. I did register for both that and Neuroshima Hex under shobi6669@hotmail.com b/c they requested/required an email address.

I would love to play either Neuroshima Hex or Caylus with PolyU but I have not bothered to sit down and figure out how to invite you yet. Presumably I failed b/c I did not know your email.

Anyone who hasn't, please feel free to friend me on gamecenter (shobi6669)

Or invite me to Neuroshima Hex and Caylus using:

shobi6669@hotmail.com

Cheers!

I also picked up Nightfall when it was on sale, but I have only played it once in person. Does anyone else have it? I will look for you on there once I do the tutorial & figure it out better.

Cheers!

I invited you Eric, to a NH game. The latest update to NH added Game Center, as well as their e-mail invite.

Now we just have to wait for Small World...

Harb I did check & I did get a personal invite from someone else but maybe you did not make it private and another person joined or maybe I deleted your invite on accident. Sorry about that. I think I figured out how to do a private invite to just you and I named the game POlyU1 so if you see it join it as I may have messed your invite up.

Apologies again.

I am enjoying PR async so far though.

As for Small World, I do not have it yet, but do post here when they get async as that is a good reason to buy it.

Cheers!

I gotta get a job that does not demand results!

I missed all the posting, much less have time to play the hook-up games.

Stolen direct From bgg announcement. For those that like the playdek games . . .

Playdek Apps on Sale until 8/23
Playdek is having a sale in honor of GenCon and their latest announcements. Here is what is on sale 8/16/12 through 8/23/12:

Ascension: Chronicle of the God Slayer - $0.99, all expansions $0.99 Each

Summoner Wars - Buy Everything Bundle $4.99

Nightfall - $0.99

Food Fight iOS - $0.99

I never bought food fight b/c I had not heard of it, but for a buck I will check it out, but I have all the others and I feel that playdek seems to do good work and make the games easy to figure out & play.

Cheers!

Anyone else got RK's Samurai? i'm registered under proCoffee in it too (email address required for online play)

Is Caylus synchronous or asynchronous? (also proCoffee) but not used it online.

Coffeedrinker, BHL set up an asynchronous game of Caylus which we are currently playing. I admit I do not know how yet, but hopefully he can start another one for three and include you. I would play another. I am still getting the interface down. As to Samurai I do not have it. Is it good? I will add it to my watch list.

On another note, Harb and GT, how did that last Neuroshima game end. I got a MSG that it ended, but I could not get it to play the animation of the final battle for me. Did someone resign? Or did all the bases get eliminated on the same turn? Did anyone actually win?

It was a good game either way, thanks for playing!

Cheers!

Coffeedrinker and I are into a Samurai game. It's functional, if not the greatest looking.

I was going to ask you about that NH game. I initiated a battle on my turn- you got elimited in round two, then sometime in round one I think, I thought mine crashed then I did not see it again when it started up. We could very well have eliminated each other.

I can try to set up a Caylus game. It requires an email address to set up the game. I had to input Eric's email but it is working fine.

All these async games, though, try my interest in the game. While I thoroughly enjoy Caylus, Puerto Rico and Le Havre in person, playing them asynchronously has been an interesting endeavor. So sloooooow.

BHL:

I see your point, but I feel just the opposite. I find it slow to play these games in person, or if slow is not a completely accurate word, then loooong. There is no way my participation in that Le Havre game we are playing in minutes a turn will take anywhere near the amount of ACTUAL time it took to play my last face-to-face Le Havre game (which was 3+ hours). It may take us a month to finish at this rate, but my overall time investment in actually playing/thinking is way less.

I also like async b/c I do not have to wait thru you guys taking your turns and I never feel bad for taking my time to make a choice b/c no one is waiting on me. I also like it b/c it allows me to try different strategies than I would try while face-to-face b/c it seems to be less of a risk. It just seems less important and in games with actual or de facto player elimination I never take the risk of being eliminated in person b/c then I would have to sit there bored or leave, but if I am killed or effectively lose the game on the third turn on async, I really do not care as much, b/c I did not drive somewhere for an extended gaming session to be cut short and I am comfortable at home in my jammies.

Plus, I have another (purely speculative) guess why folks like DE and BHL do not like async device games as much as I do. No table talk and no meta-gaming! Everyone on async games is actually making the best choice for themselves and not the "best" choice that DE talked them into.

For me, access to long games like the 3 you mentioned on my device has really extended the life of these games for me in that I can actually play them enough to understand them. I know this has been your complaint of late, BHL, but we just do not play these long games enough for me to ever really understand them, and while we try to get some re-plays in with mechanisms like GotM, the group historically has played a lot of different games rather than playing a certain game over and over, and the long games are just hard to table on Thursday nights.

We have kind of fallen down on the job with Le Havre, but we could be playing multiple games at once (although for some reason it may restrict you to 3) to really learn the game and all the buildings. That type of practice is what would make playing the game again someday in person LESS painful and MORE quick-playing.

Just my perspective.

Cheers!
