Astronaut meet and greet

#1 Post by boathouselooper » Mon Jul 26, 2010 4:46 pm

Hey guys, just in case this is something that interests you....

I am having an astronaut at my house tomorrow (Tuesday). The meet 'n' greet starts at 6:30. The guest of honor is Wally Funk, one of the 13 women that underwent secret astronaut training in the 1960's. She has a fascinating story: http://www.ninety-nines.org/index.cfm/wally_funk.htm

She's an especially great role model for young girls.

My girls are interested. I'll throw it past the CEO. How do you get an astronaut to show at your house? Way cool.

Yeah....I'd like to come, but just reading that site made me feel like an incredible waste of a human being, so meeting her in person would probably make my head explode.

I was having a good day until I realized I don't qualify to do more than carry her luggage.

Good score BHL!
I may not be perfect, but parts of me are pretty awesome.

Come on out anyway! I don't qualify as a luggage carrier but she still talks to me.

I had her in a teleconference with my students last semester and she talked with them about astronaut training.

We will be busy, but sound interesting. The guest we have staying at my house makes me feel inadequate. He's in his 70's going for a fourth degree, built submarines, worked in a gov. think tank, builds plasma cutting robots, is into astro-physics, etc, etc. Everytime he tells me something he is working on, it reminds me how lazy I am.
Memoir wouldn't do that...

And at the end of it, even astrophysics man will get dirt thrown in his face and everyone else will go back to the church and eat potato salad.

Sorry we couldn't make it Boat, but we didn't leave sea base until past 10pm. It is one party out there every evening. I think I fell asleep being the big party person that I am.

Serip is right, someone has to get up to turn the lights on.
