I'm assuming not, but any of you play(ed) Bridge?
I've been desiring something a little meatier than Tichu, and I think this is it.

If we can get a foursome together, I would certainly play. My family taught me to play back in my teen years, but I haven't played since then. I can certainly bone up on the rules. I also got Abridged in that math trade, but I haven't played it yet.

I sometimes miss playing regular card games. We used to play Pinochle & 500 & hearts & spades and rummy variants all the time when I was young.

And all it takes is a cheap deck of cards!

Cheers!

It seems to me that if everyone has figured out what everyone has in their hands through bidding, then whats the point really anyway? I mean one of the players is even showing his entire hand. If you can count cards I think you would excel at Bridge. I'm sure it plays better than that, but my grandparents play it so I question the tactical tenacity some people claim it offers. But I have never played it so I'm here to be proven wrong.

Duplicate bridge pretty much disproves your entire point.

I can certainly bone up ...Ibid

We used to play Pinochle & 500 & hearts & spades and rummy variants all the time when I was young. I get it. Funny. However, I was an avid player of 500, hearts, and spades in the day.

Cheers!

Serip summed up bridge as I knew it. Tell me your hand through bidding. A lot.

Ah Rat, another sign of your SO working her magic..... Like Eric, I enjoy card games too, so if you need a player, I'm in. I also picked up a Bridge trainer game, and have meant to try it, but have soooo many other things I'd rather play right now.

I don't see how rotating tables and players competeing with the same hands against each other changes my point at all. The bid is still there. You and your partner are still doing the exact same thing, now you are simply seeing if you can bid better than the other teams.

If anything it exaggerates my point because if you partnered with someone for a long enough time you could get really good at reading each others hands. And that is the whole point of the game - IMHO. But again, I don't have a clear understanding of the rules are so I could be completely wrong, and at the very least I have NO understanding of what I should bid to signal to my partner what I have.

I would be willing to give this a try because it is a classic card game; and I wasn't trying to belittle your interest in it.

And you would have to play it over tea and crumpets with little old ladies in pointed healed shoes.

I'm telling you, I use to play this as a teenager. Hopefully this is just a phase Rat is going through like the puberty stage I was going through when I was learning it. It isn't THAT fun. It isn't like going through life with a crap load of money and still not being happy because you are lacking faith or something. This is Bridge. Take up piano or paintball, but Bridge? Honestly. Is it April 1st or something. I think I'm posting here in some dream...
