To be fair, I think the answers that lead to Green are pretty lame in any respect. I think it would be pretty tough for even Oberon to be one... :-$

I just go where I'm told. Hell is a frequent location.

Yes, I'm still planning on doing this. Just need to get my house in order. Almost done.

Meanwhile, saw this posted on BGG. If you would like some free Magic cards, they are offering free decks....

Captain Yid - Hell, for 25 million I'd still play. It's not like he is being dared to eat cat crap or anything.

O.K.... Based on the request of BHL.... I am prepared to do this, this week. Magic is still my true love even after all the cool Euro goodness that I've learned these last couple years.

For this week, I'm bringing a mixture of Portal and Portal II cards to teach the rules of the game. We'll create some random mono-colored decks to get our feet wet. Power will be unbalanced between the decks, but learning the game will be the initial primary focus.

If we want to continue past the learning game, we can then balance the cards out using a process called "Winston" Drafting:

1. Each two player draft grabs 18 cards from each of the 5 colors.
2. Shuffle all 90 cards together in one big deck without looking at them.
3. Choose someone to draft first, then put the top three cards from the deck face down next to it as three new small piles of one card each.
4. The first player looks at the first small pile. He may choose to draft that pile or not.
5. If he drafts it, he replaces that pile with a new face-down card from the deck.
6. If he doesn't draft it, he puts it back, adds a new card from the deck face down, and moves on to the next pile.
7. He looks at that pile and decides to draft it or not, replacing it with a new card if he drafts it, adding a new card to it and moving on if he doesn't.
8. If he doesn't want to draft the third pile, he adds a card to it, then drafts a random card from the top of the deck.
9. Continue until all 90 cards have been drafted. Construct 40-card decks and play.

A Winston draft is demonstrated in this video:

If we want to purse beyond this, I will then work to "repack" some basic sets to start learning some of the advanced rules in the game another week. Then finally, I can attempt to build a cube which is the latest rage.

Yeah, I was at my sponsor's the other day and he is a pretty big MtG dealer and runs lots of events. Looking in the display case I noticed a typo - a 500 dollar card. Whoops!

When I pointed it out to him he told me it wasn't a typo, it was a 500 dollar card, and I just missed him selling a 800 dollar card.

WTF is up with that!?!? one card = almost 1000 bucks!?!?

Not the game for this huckleberry. I think I'd rather start 4 different mini's collections instead....ok 2 different mini's collections.

Yeah, I'll be careful on how much flak I take for buying lots of new releases from.

I didn't read the 500 dollar card, but if the 800 dollar one said anything but the following it would be a rip-off.

"You win. Period. Reach across the table, take all of your opponents cards and add them to your deck. Then take his wallet and empty the contents into your wallet. Next read his address of his drivers's license and go to his house. Feel free to take whatever you fancy when you get there. If his wife is there and she is a hottie, have your way with her until you are sated. After trashing your opponents house and wife go home and relax for the rest of the day. Do not bother to clean up or even close the door on the way out. You rule."

And they don't make a card sleeve heavy enough for this card unless they are making them out of the Kevlar that comprises the roof on the Colorado Airport.

FYI, the $500 card is a Mox Ruby. (I work at said sponsor's store)

Superhawk, you don't even see the degenerate end of Magic players... like the guys that spend 4 straight hours looking through boxes of 5 cent commons... or:

This kid came in last Tuesday.. He bought 3 boxes of Magic(at $125 each) and a $50 card. Total damage: $450. He came in again on Saturday and told me he bought 2 more $100 boxes on Wednesday, and another $100 box on Friday. He only dropped about $40 on singles on Saturday... must be running low on cash by now.

Ok, so he is almost your stereotypical magic player. He's probably around 20-22, smelly, disheveled, dirty, clips his nails every 3 weeks, etc. Saturday he walks in pushing a stroller with his infant daughter and hot wife in tow. It was really a "wtf" moment...

Rat,

I have noticed one thing you cite as totally true regarding real MtG players; Super hot wives / girlfriends.
I noted that at the store during a few events. Never fails. It is like clockwork. Go to any MtG event and prepare to give your neck a workout from turning so often to see if there is yet another really ot girl coming into a game store..... :-s

You ever hear of Reefer Madness? That is what you guys are sounding like. The Devil is in magic too. Just read here.

Magic can be a very expensive hobby if you collect cards by buying new booster packs. Don't do that. Instead, buy from garage sales, or bulk collections on E-Bay. For years I bought people's collections on E-Bay and have sold back cards to pay for my hobby. Very much like I do for board games today. Anytime one of my cards becomes more valuable than $15, it is on the chopping block for selling.

Anyways, back to this discussion....

I have plenty of cards and can create an endless stream of repacks such that everyone else doesn't even have to buy a single card. If you really get into it, I may ask other's to start bringing their own land (I'll give you some) just to limit the weight I have to carry week to week.
