Then we can have cool 'dance fights' like the Jets versus the... Sharks? I haven't seen West Side Story in a long time. Maybe it's the Jets versus the Monkeys.

Anyway, it's not really a rival gaming club, as it would be differently-focused. It'd be mainly for miniatures gamers and people who like to paint miniatures and make miniatures terrain. As you may know (and as Derf will tell you) I'm 'gay' for miniatures. I collect them and think about them and construct and modify them and once in a while, even paint them. I'd like to find other people to play with. I know we have a bunch of people here interested in Warmachine, and my battlebox is nearly ready, I swear! The Destroyer is all built (poorly, I might add) and he just needs his base finished and then to be primed. However, I have other minis games that I own or are interested in, so this club would be good for networking and learning.

My idea would be to have one meeting a month, probably at the House of Heroes cuz I can get the space for free. Anybody can attend, but there would be the option to be a paying member, as well. You'd probably pony up $10 a year or something, and we'd spend that money on banners or t-shirts or stickers or other marketing-type stuff. As a paying member, you'd get to vote in club stuff (whatever that might be) and get a cool icon on the messageboards. There would maybe be other benefits as well, like maybe a membership card that will get you a discount at House of Heroes and maybe Chimera, as well.

The meetings would start with some quick meeting business, then maybe a game demonstration or a painting demo, then people could break up and play some games. Since minis games are usually one on one, the meetings (and the messageboard) would be there mainly to get players together for networking, learning and playing short games. The majority of games would actually be played whenever the two or more interested parties could get together and play.

We'd probably do other functions as well, like go to conventions together, run games and demos at conventions, spread the word, etc.

My main question to you all is this: what region should I target? My first idea was calling it Oshkosh Area Tabletop Hobbyists (OATH, which is sorta cool) but does that seem too exclusionary? My second idea was Fox Valley Area Tabletop Hobbyists (or FVATH, which kinda sounds like Klingon). That would, at least in name, include the Neenah/Menasha and Appleton people, and more is usually better. Maybe we could alternate months, and one month have the meeting in Oshkosh and the next month have the meeting in Appleton at Chimera. Hmm.

Anyway, any opinions, concepts or death threats are welcome. Thanks!

Depending on how it all goes, I might be interested. I've actually been considering possibly selling my Warmachine army because the Poly-U group never seems interested in playing it. From what I have seen in regards to mini-gaming, lots of people are interested "in theory" but nobody seems to want to commit to anything. ;)

It would be nice to have some sort of group that I could attend where it would get some use.

I agree, it would be nice to have a group of minis people.

Also, I swear by all that is holy, I'm still working on my Warmachine stuff and want to play. As soon as I get my Destroyer finished, I want to get some 'battlebox' games played. And now, I have another one of my solos built, based and primed (as of this last weekend) so she's ready to go under the brush (after the Destroyer). I'm not sure if I'll have the Destroyer done by OshCon as I have six zombies to paint (which will be done this week as they're pretty easy-peasy) and a 3D Zombie Rally graveyard/track to build in time for the con, but I'll try like hell.

I'm up for Warmathingy!

I'd also like to get into Flames of War or some sort of WWII miniatures game.

Most of my unused Warmachine is on Bartertown right now, but I'm keeping quite a bit of Cygnar and Legion of Everblight. The pirates and Khador are on the way out, though.

Please keep us posted, atom.

Elric, you can play at Chimera weekly. I know they do Warmachine there every Friday. http://www.gearsandguts.com/forum/

Sounds cool Atom. I'd definately swing by to see whats up.

I'm a little confused by the "Tabletop" in the name though. For me that means boardgames too even though technically I might not be correct. If it's exclusively for mini's shouldn't that be in the name? But I don't run in those circles.

To raise funds you minis-homos could paint people's minis for them. I'd pay a few bucks a mini to get some key boardgame minis painted!

To that end, and since you brought it up, I think the word "gay" should be prominent in your groups title. You wouldn't want anyone who was just 'bi for minis' or 'hetro for minis' showing up trying to get all metro on you.

How about "Rainbow Allied with Warmathingy" or RAWW, which is what you get when you get all gay with Warmathingy..........tiger, MeeeOoooW!

It's okay BHL, he is just still in the closet. Like one of those gay volcano's that rumble for a while before they explode in a fierce orgy of rainbows, glitter, and showtunes.....about miniatures.

Someday I hope to be as cool as Superhawk, so I can talk all day about things that I supposedly don't care about. Your post is all kinds of FAIL. Don't bring a meeple to a warmachine fight.

Henceforth thou shalt be known as "SuperChicken".

See, I was basing this name kind of off all of the gaming clubs in Britian (of which there are a zillion). They're all either called the So-and-so-ville Wargaming Club or the So-and-so-ville Tabletop Club. They're never called the So-and-so-ville Miniatures Club. Not sure why, maybe a cultural thing.

I didn't want to call it a wargaming club, because that word makes me think of Axis & Allies and ASL, not miniatures. I wanted to mention the tabletop aspect of it, but also the hobbyist aspect of it. I want people to join who don't even play the games, they just like to paint or collect or make terrain. I didn't want to call it a miniature hobbyist club, because then it sounds like it's only a club for little people with hobbies.

As a side note, I saw some non-gaming friends this weekend and they asked how Snarling Badger Games was going, and said we were working on a "miniatures" game, and they were really interested until they realized that I wasn't talking about those little bottles of booze you used to get on airplanes.

So the name thing is still up in the air, I guess.

Ahem, You must have missed my post, so here, I'll reprint it for you...

"Oshki bagamaagan odaminwaagan zhizhoo'an miigaadiwin"

Which in Ojibwe means "A new war club for fighting with painted dolls"

Name problem solved.

I just liked the acronym MeTaL.

See in Britain I'm wondering if you get a lot of influence from the Warhammer businesses. Where else can you open up a game store that sells only one companies (and a fickle one at that) products.

NOW, a club sampling minature bottles of booze has win all over it!

All you people with your fake names and your randomly changing your fake names to *new* fake names. (see CB/SB & Yong/Yid)

I get confused, so I am just going to call him SuperChickenHawk.

I think that fits in nicely with the decidedly male homosexual slant this thread has taken.

Not that I'm complaining, but still.

Cheers!
