So I went to Chimera's today to look at some games. Nothing really stood out that I wanted to buy for the price they had it, but I did run across a game called "Mutant Chronicles" that seemed somewhat interesting. It's a miniature (pre-painted) game that seemed relatively low cost, and I was just wondering if anyone had played it before - who might be able to tell me what it was like... Anyone?

----
Description:

In the dark and brutal future, humanity has abandoned Earth, and the solar system is a battlefield.

From the red deserts of Mars to the steaming jungles of Venus, and from the underworlds of Mercury to the frozen hells of the asteroid belt, battle lines are being drawn. The great megacorporations who control all humanity wage endless, bloody wars against each other as they fight for ever-dwindling resources. The fanatic soldiers and inquisitors of the holy Brotherhood crusade against the necromutants and the undead legions who seek to conquer all life in the names of their demonic masters.

In the Mutant Chronicles Collectible Miniatures Game, you can collect and field your own army of techno-fantasy warriors and challenge your opponents with steel, firepower, and the mystic powers of the Art or the Dark Gifts.

Building your army has never been easier. No two units are alike, yet there are no point costs to add, and you can put together your unique force in minutes.

Battles are fast. Combat is quick and deadly, with minimal record-keeping and almost no down-time between turns.

Strategy matters. When designing your army, you must choose a mix of units, action cards, and special orders that will come together on the battlefield to destroy your enemies and give you the glorious victory.

54mm scale figures allow for unparalleled detail and incredible paint jobs.
Innovative game system makes army building easy, putting you right in the action!
Starter sets provide stats for every model in the set, so you know what figures you want to find.
Five unique factions each with distinctive units, ranging from corporate soldiers to demonic monsters.

Yep, jokes on you I"m afraid to say. Skittle thinks that your body has been hijacked by BHL for that post kind of plagiarizes one that BHL would write and probably owns the copy right to.

NO NO NO, BHL is the big mini game fanatic around here, and I was cracking a joke.

I guess it wasn't as clever as I thought since I am being compared to Yid...Ugh, I just threw up in my mouth a little.

I've stayed away from Mutant Chronicles for two reasons:

1) The minis are a weird size at 54mm. I say 'weird' because they're too big to use in any other game, so they're definitely single-use (meaning I can't use them as proxies in AT-43 or any other rules set, most likely).

2) I've seen some of the squad sets, and it'll be three copies of the exact same sculpt with each painted differently, and another guy posed differently. That just annoys me.

To be fair, I don't really know anything about the actual gameplay, but those two things were showstoppers for me before I even got into the rules system.

I kind of LIKE the large scale minis though. I really lies when Games Workshop came out with their Inquisitor line. The game was really cool with the role play element to it, but really, those HUGE space marines and other figs. were the bee's knees.

It's kind of nice getting some BIG figs on the table if it is going to be a skirmish level type of game anyway with fewer guys, you can have that nice big mini.

How cool are those?!?!

Hey Rat, thanks for the info. Chimeras only had two addon mini's there, so I hadn't known a lot about the variety overall.

SB - Yes, the huge figures were cool (as far as artwork)... I guess the tossup is as Rat said that you can't reuse them in another game. For me though, I don't think I will maintain a lot of games that I would transition figures from one into another. I will probably just find one or two, then stick with those. I also have no experience with painting mini's, and since I have no supplies I wouldn't know the first thing about getting started on that. Hence, the pre-painted models were interesting. ;)

One other downside though on that is the cost... They were $12 per figure, which seems expensive to me. Or is that pretty standard as far as mini's costs?

That big, and pre-painted....$12 seems actually like a good price. I know I've paid a heck of a lot more than $12, for some 28mm raw pewter before....

Getting into a miniature game is expensive. There is no getting around that. $12 isn't bad, as SB says. I paid almost $30 each for some Legion of Everblight Angelius figures - they are unassembled, raw pewter. (these stand about 6" tall when assembled).

So yeah, if I could pay $12 to have it painted and assembled it would be a no brainer.

Then there is the terrain. Another time and money pit.

But it you want to learn Warmachine / Hordes, I have quite a bit of lead waiting to hit the table.
