I'm pretty sure I talked to Boathouselooper at Fire & Ice about Warmachine and I've been thinking about starting an army for funsies. Mainly I want to paint them and then eventually play, as well. I had a guy I know (he was one of the people running the Warmachine demo at F&I) email me a starter army list for Khador, and he got me a list of 500 points. Is that a decent enough amount? Do people play with that amount much, and do any people around the area play? How much do you play, Boathouselooper?

Thanks for the help.

Yeps, you talked with me about WARMACHINE (it's all caps ya know).

I don't play as much as I'd like to. My Warmachine buds live in different towns and we just don't get together like we used to. I would like to play more.

500 points is a good size army. That's a pretty common size. 350 is about the size of the battleboxes and that extra 150 points gives you some good flexibility for adding solos or extra troopers.

I noticed that once I started buying miniatures, I just kept on buying them. I have way too many.

I have 64 Cygnar models rated at 2127 points (mostly painted)
26 Khador models at 1190 points - only a few painted
and then a smattering of other factions and some Hordes figures.

The warjacks are really fun to paint. I really like the Privateer Press Paints too. Unfortunately Chimera only sells the 6 packs of paint. But the paint goes on smoother than any other I've used (Citadel, Reaper, Vallejo).

I think there is supposed to be a group of players in Appleton. I played a few times at Virtual Magic in Menominee Falls in a league, but I did poorly in the rankings because I could only play one game a week. I talked with Bob about getting a league started in Appleton and he seemed a bit interested.

Well, I ordered my Warmachine Prime Remixed book from HoH yesterday and also ordered half of my 500 point army from thewarstore.com and should get both by the end of the week, I suspect. The book might take two weeks, depending on when Scott orders, however.

The pieces I should have this week are the Khador Battle Group Box set (with Kommander Sorscha Kratikoff, a Destroyer warjack and a Juggernaut warjack), a Manhunter solo and a Widowmaker unit box. In a few weeks I'll be ordering an Iron Fang Pikemen unit box, an Iron Fang Officer and Standard Bearer and my only mercenary, Eiryss, Mage Hunter of Ios.

I'll probably start constructing and painting the pieces that are coming this week right away, as I just finished a squad I've been painting for a few weeks and don't have anything else started yet. They're making me kind of nervous, as I'm not sure my painting ability is up to snuff, but I'll give it a try.

Once I get my stuff painted, I would love to play again. Maybe we can get together and you can stomp the snot out of me. \:D/ I have plenty of space and terrain.

I talked to the Press Ganger I know in Milwaukee (he was at Fire & Ice, too) and he's interested in at least running demos at OshCon, and maybe even a small tourny, so that could be cool, too.

I'm looking forward to the pieces getting here.

EDIT:Now....when a guy goes to the trouble to translate a phrase into GREEK, to make a subtle "It's all greek to me" line just a wee bit funnier.....Shouldn't the internet and forum boards NOT break said guy's spirit by refusing to display the proper greek alphabet, and displaying stupid unicode numeral crap instead?

Why are you challenging him? Don't get him started...again. You know the Internet flows through his veins. Greek or not, but never challenge THE SKITTLEBRAU!:(

So, you up for another beating at the disc golf course there Skittle?

Boathouselooper, you might be interested in the tourney in New Berlin. It's at the Hobbytown USA there and it's Saturday, May 31st. There's more information on the Privateer Press forums under the Official Events section, I believe.

I got my book quickly from HoH (woo hoo!) and my Battle Box, Manhunter and Widowmakers all showed up. I put the Manhunter together on Saturday and need to figure out how I want to base him. I'll probably work on one of the warjacks tonight, or maybe the Widowmakers. They're all one-piece models, I think.

Oh sweet, Atom. I like the Widowmakers, nice sculpts - especially the Kapitan :love4:

Unfortunately for me the 31st is my nephew's "gradfirmation" party -- 8th grade graduation and confirmation. And it's in Illinois so it's a long drive on top of missing gaming.

Though he always asks if Uncle Jim is bringing any new games. And now that I own Power Grid I'll have to play that with him and his siblings.

The 'jacks are pretty easy to fit together too - just make sure you pin those arms on. I'd hate to see one get knocked off during play. I really like painting the 'jacks - no skin tones or eyes to try to make look decent. Just metal plates and gears.

Once I get my Kommander and my two 'Jacks painted up (which should be sometime in early June, I hope) would you be interested in just doing some small duels, so I can get a better grasp of the rules? I've been reading on the Privateer Press forums a lot and they suggest that a Battle Box vs. Battle Box is a good way to start learning and getting the hang of timing and activation and whatnot.

I hope to have my 350-point list painted by the end of June at the very latest, so it'd be nice to get some playing in before then, if you're interested.

You betcha!

Battlebox vs. battlebox is an excellent way to learn. So much of being successful depends upon the order of activation of your units.

I played a small game on Saturday afternoon and then another small battle on Monday. It was a good rule refresher for me. I hope to play a few times a month, now.

Let me know when you are ready to try it out!

Jim

Cool, I got my replacement piece from Privateer Press yesterday (one of my 'Jacks had a poorly cast upper torso) so I'll probably start constructing tonight.

Neither did I, and I don't want to set SB up with him sharing a tent with his nephew. This is a family show, you know.

It is amazing how sometimes everyone will show no interest in a post, except to take it off topic? :)

Seriously, Boathouse. You posted that you had extra mini's for this, yes? When you two set this up could you bring a couple extra sets? I would like to try it out if you don't mind.

I think it sounds pretty cool..... but I have $20,000 or so in Warhammer and 40K stuff in my house right now, that tells me I need not venture into the realms of Minis again....

It is addicting. I have about 50 miniatures from Rackham's Confrontation line that are still in the blister. For some reason I just kept buying them. I guess I thought I'd play it someday. Checking ebay, it seems that these really don't hold much resale value.

I do see a ton of Warhammer stuff for sale but I have no idea what holds any value for WH or 40K.

Warmachine is a really good game. I can't compare it to WH or 40K as I've not played either. If you want to try it out sometime (you know you do) I'd be more than happy to give you a demo.

Do you like: 1) A shooty force with lightning bolts, 2) a psuedo Russian punch you in the teeth close combat force, 3) a force based on fire and religious ideals or 4) undead.

I'm partial to #1 as I don't like to get my hands dirty. :)

Jim

I have EVERY fig ever put out for Inquisitor, Mordheim, Battlefleet Gothic ....all because I loved them and want ed to play them more....they all sit. 3/4 still in the blister....

I feel ya.
