Game Selection Geeklist

#1 Post by D Erasmus » Sun Apr 20, 2008 9:16 pm

I've built a private geeklist based on the game sign-up sheet we where using at the last Palooza.

If you would like to introduce or suggest a game to be played with the group, post it on this Geeklist to see who will play it with you.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/30877

or

http://www.bgg.cc/geeklist/30877

Edit- Made sticky- ewww. Harb
Edit - Added alternate BGG URL to avoid work blockers.

Hey D E, Even though we didn't play lifeboats together, I still think the list is a good idea. I'm always up for trying something new and this will allow us to see what's on someone's mind for gaming.

Jim
Simon: Hello
Robert: Hello
Simon: What's your name?
Robert: Um, Robert Unwin
Simon: And what do you do?
Robert: I work at a chicken factory.
<Silence>
Simon: .....Good....

Thanks Rat and BHL for your input.

What about the rest of you? Any comments on what is listed or the process? Are there any games you are itching to play? Does this sound like too much work? Too organized/anal?

I cannot access the geek at work. Something about productivity.

As long as someone posts on this thread after six I should remember. :)

D Erasmus:

I think this is a nice idea, and I did briefly check this out last night at home. I may be able to put my repsonses in at a later time, but like GT, I can't access BGG from work, and that will limit my responses to possibly nights, but more likely solely on Fridays and the week-end.

I don't think this is necessarily a great hindrance, because once it gets going and there is some more content out there I think it could be self-perpetuating, especially if everyone updates a lot and or deletes when appropriate as you suggest on the geeklist.

That said, lack of access to BGG for many of us at work would be the primary reason you have so few responses so far. And lack of interest in BGG as a whole may be why we will NEVER see responses from some members there as they simply don't go there that often.

That said, you made it easy for people to go there by just following the link, and if this takes off, you should get one of the members with admin power here at the forums to give this post a sticky so it doesn't get bumped from prominence.

Wait until next Monday after I've had three days at home and I'm sure I can provide some input!

Cheers!

Is there a way to create a "E-club" in the geek to tie our ID's and activities like these together?

Or maybe function options that the *new* forum can feature?

I don't dis-like the geek. But it seams very time consuming when I do manage to get on it.

There are two things that I know about:

1) Guilds
2) Geekbuddies

For Guilds, there is supposed to be more features coming this year to help manage gaming groups. The tools right now are fairly limited. In my opinion, what you have built on Poly-U is better than Guilds right now.

For guilds there is one nice feature for consolidating games owned and the corresponding ratings. The problem is that you cannot have a private guild and you cannot limit the guild to specific members. Therefore, you will get people joining that really shouldn't.

Here is an example of the tool I'm talking about for the Milwaukee guild:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/collection/198?own=1

I've thought of bringing up the topic of guilds with the group before, but have held off since I didn't want to put any more strain on Harb's place. You build a guild, and I'm almost certain that you will have more members than you will know what to do with.

The other nice feature is the Geekbuddies. But, again, I would like it if they would add more features. Geekbuddies is a quick way to see what people are posting and for comparing game ratings. I've created a PHU group for myself with all of you in it. That way I can scan your ratings on games quickly that I'm thinking of playing. Doesn't work that great because everyone tends to only rate a few of their own games and not many of Harb's. The interface is a bit tedious too. It only lets you look at one game at a time.

Therefore, I'm hoping that this geeklist that I'm proposing will hopefully fill this gap for us to understand what people want and are willing to play.

Dropped in some more info. This might be a good idea!! I really like all the GAME SPECIFIC sub categories so we can discuss them all at leisure.

Well played Sir D-Erasmus! :hathat37: :salute:

Yes, I was able to check this out last night where BGG is not blocked and I added in some of my opinions. It was fun. I will likely book mark it tonight & can view it periodically from home and try to contribute.

Thanks for setting it up!

Cheers!

I'm not understanding the question GT. Are you asking for a way to tie into the Geek from our site?

BTW D Eramus I think the idea is a nice one even though my gaming moods change too much to be of much help.

Its that gaming season again... Oshcon was a good kick-off...

I've cleared off the Geek-list. Time to fill it up with what you want to hit the table... I've seeded the list with one item.

I still cannot get into the geek at work. Is there anyway we could work this up on our forum? I mean, since we have all these schmancy new features.

Not that I want to make anymore work for anyone (but it is a bonus). I just want to participate. O:)

BoardGameGeek has an alternate URL for those pesky web blockers. Try this one...

I have some (lots, really). If you give me some real money, I'll give DE some fake money in your stead.

Not me, I'm behind the same fiendish firewall as everyone else here. It's nice to be able to browse the geek so again, sincerest thanks.
