After playing a very brief game at GenCon, I am sold on Call of Cthulhu and would love to 1) play or 2) GM a game if necessary.

I am not sure how big a group should be for CoC, but I'm thinking smaller is easier to manage. If you are interested, send me a PM.

I don't have any details right now (at all), other than I'm interested in participating at some level.

I am interested in the most general sense, but I don't know anything about the system at all. For me it would have to not be a big dollar investment on my part (i.e. I don't want to be buying a bunch of books in order to play). Can you educate us as to the system or point me to the current version of the "Players Handbook" (or which version you plan to use) or the official site and I can check it out when I am at home.

And I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable running it, but I am interested as a player character.

Let me know what license / edition / book I need to check out and I will get back to you, but color me interested.

Cheers!

Good questions, Eric. I've attached the Call of Cthulhu quick start rules from Chaosium. I would be using the 6th edition rules and wouldn't expect anyone to invest anything unless this becomes some sort of regularly scheduled event. And then I would imagine players would probably want to invest in the main rulebook.

So - have a gander when you get a chance!

I'd like to try my hand at this stuff again, but only with people who aren't afraid of being hit with a paintball.

Yid would excel at CoC....just enough mental instability to really get into character.

As always with the good Captain, I'm not really sure what he means by this. However I think he means that he doesn't want to role-play with me. :(

I think it is because every weekend . . .

Then he went on to insult my spirit animal.

I feel so inadequate now that I feel my spirit animal shrinking from Chihuahua to mouse. :(

You should really stop insulting BHL's manhood though, Yid, I heard that BHL once killed a man just for snoring too loud. And another for licking his Cheeto-dust covered hands and putting them back into the bag. (Okay, that was me and he didn't really kill me, just slapped me around for a bit, but still).

You still may want to be careful what you say, as I am beginning to see a glimmer of . . . could it be. . .

Yong No Mo is that you?

Chihuahua Cheers from the Cheeto-stained couch in my parent's basement!

I've tried the system a couple of times, went insane in one session each time. Not sure what the point was.

However if there is room, and I have the ability to play (y'no, conventions, another game night, etc), I would sit in and try my best to last more then on game night. I would even pretend I had never played before to put myself into the best mindset possible. 8)

BTW, I'd RPG with Eric any day. He is the exception. I'm just trying to motivate BHL. He is borderline.

CthulhuTech

The Last War

2085. Humanity faces extinction. Alien insects from the edge of our solar system, long hidden behind the façade of reality, descend to enslave us. Hordes of unspeakable horrors roll out from Central Asia, laying waste to anything in their path. The church of the fish-god scours the world for lost occult secrets to unleash terrible forces. Dead gods awaken and turn their dreadful eyes toward the Earth. And within hides a cancer, eating away at the very heart of the New Earth Government.

This is the Aeon War. This is the time of CthulhuTech.

Climb inside a thirty-foot tall war machine and rain down hell on the unwavering Migou. Fight tooth and nail on the front lines against the horrific beasts of the Rapine Storm. Seek out the disgusting corruption of the insidious Esoteric Order of Dagon. Explore the dark world of the malignant Chrysalis Corporation and their unseen monstrous agents. Sift through secrets long thought lost and bend the power of the cosmos to your will. Join in symbiosis with something beyond time and space and become a shape-shifting bringer of wrath.

Nowhere else will you find a setting like this.

Inside this book you will find:

* a complete history and detailed exploration of the world of the Aeon War, so that you can start a game right away.
* nine pieces of provocative short fiction to help portray the feel of the setting.
* the innovative Framewerk system. Not only cinematic, Framewerk puts control back where it belongs – in your hands.
* the option to play a hardy and resourceful 21st century Human or join the fight as a night-skinned genetically-engineered Nazzadi.
* the option to play as one of seven professions, including Arcanotechnicians, who meld technology and magic into a unique discipline, Engel Pilots, who join in communion with gigantic arcane cyborgs, Occult Scholars, who delve into the mysteries of the universe and harness its power for themselves, or the mysterious alien shapeshifting Tagers.
* a unique ritual-based magic system, simulating dark and painstaking universe channeling power, including two dozen mind-wrenching spells.
* more than 30 unique machines of death, including the bug-like Migou mecha, the rough and tumble mecha of the New Earth Government, and the monstrous bio-organic Engels.
* more than 20 unspeakable horrors, including the terrible hordes of the Rapine Storm and the monstrous servants of the Chrysalis Corporation.
* a secret history of the world for Storyguides, including an exploration of dead gods, lost races, and forgotten places.
* story starters and hooks, to get you into a game now.

CthulhuTech is a complete, self-contained storytelling game. All you need besides this book are five to ten 10-sided dice.
