Even though I just joined today I'd like to posit a small poll. I've been running online games using Fantasy Grounds, Screen Monkey, MapTools and other stuff for the past 5 years or so. While I am geographically challenged (Menomonee Falls) and constrained to weeknight gaming I'd like to throw out some suggestions for some online campaigns I'd love to run.

I'd more than likely use MapTools and Skype - running bi-monthly on a weeknight from about 6 - 10 ish

Here are some of the ad's I've used in previous games so you can get a feel (I hope) for some of the effort I like to put into my online games!

Something I'm working on for a modern game set in Milwaukee - I'm keeping the rules set underwraps to avoid preconceptions about what characters can be:

I've actually wondered if this group did any table-top types. We ran a few Star Wars campaigns in college and they were a lot of fun. If you need any resources I believe I have a lot of the .PDF resources and might even still have some of the campaign specs of some of the one's I have ran.

Teamspeak for an RPG. How did that work out?

Would be cool to mod the voice through the computer to 'sound' like your character. Of course it just might sound like a party of Stephen Hawking's and Cylon's...

Teamspeak was alright - I used a hosted server but Skype - www.skype.com was even better. Skype is free and it's sound quality is as good or better than Time Warner digital phone service, can sustain an 8 person conference call with sidebar conversations/meeting rooms, i.e. the main conference continues and two or more other people can talk "in private" to simulate the GM pulling a player aside and giving him secret info.

It's a good pseudo-replacement for face-to-face but it's still fun to get together as well. One of the last groups I ran had people from all over - Australia, US (New York, Kansas) and Canada. It's great if you always wanted to play a game but could never get the local group to try it.

The guys over at 4 Ugly Monsters - www.fouruglymonsters.com run a yearly con FUMCon (formerly Icon) for virtual gaming. It's a great time to see what tech's out there.
